
Keeping Your Bathroom Heater from Becoming a Hazard
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are nightmare fuel for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, random water splashes, and high humidity. It’s the perfect recipe for a short circuit. When we design infrared heaters, our main obsession is making sure the electricity stays exactly where it belongs—inside the wires and far away from you.
Dealing with the Steam
In a normal room, air does a decent job of keeping electricity in check. But once you turn on the shower? That air gets heavy with moisture, and suddenly, it’s much easier for electricity to wander where it shouldn’t. To stop this, we use high-grade quartz envelopes for the lamps and really beef up the seals where they connect. If a seal leaks, moisture hits the tungsten filament and—pop—it’s gone. To prevent that, we use a specific type of potting compound at the ends. Think of it like a waterproof plug. It keeps the current locked in, even when the room feels like a sauna.
The Connection Points
Most heaters fail at the connection points. That’s just where the stress is. We use alloys that don’t rust or oxidize because, if the metal degrades, you get arcing. Not great. Now, our internal insulation is solid, but you still need a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) in your wiring. It’s your safety net. We build the chassis to be fully grounded, so if something does go wrong, the breaker trips instantly. It’s better to have the power go out for a second than to feel a shock while you’re stepping out of the tub.
The Balancing Act: Heat vs. Water
Here’s the tricky part. You’d think “seal it airtight” is the answer for waterproofing, right? Wrong. If we seal a high-wattage lamp too tight, the heat builds up inside until the pressure literally cracks the quartz tube. It’s a tough trade-off. Our fix is using hydrophobic vents. They’re clever little things—they let the heat breathe and escape, but they block liquid water from getting inside. Just make sure your fixture has the right airflow. If the housing gets too hot, it doesn’t matter how waterproof it is; it’s just not going to last.
